Default Shopping for the future - 03-29-08, 12:40 AM

Do you or have you ever bought something far in advance in hopes you'd get use out of it? Like say if you found a really cute baby item for an amazing price, would you buy it for a future child? If you found a maternity item you loved, would you buy it for the next time you're hoping to be pregnant?

Sometimes I'm torn. I know you can sell stuff on ebay if you didn't end up needing it. Some people think buying things in advance jinxes you. I know some cultures don't even do baby showers for fear that it jinxes the pregnancy and health of the child.

I love shopping the sales online (or in person if I get lucky enough) and still find myself paroozing the maternity sections online I have yet to buy anything for a smaller baby or maternity though.

It's so tough because it would seem so silly to buy stuff ahead of time for a future child or pregnancy. The money could be considered wasted since you could have spent it on something for now. Of course then when the time comes and you use it, it would seem well worth it because you wouldn't be spending money then I know... either way you're spending the money.

I know it's probably best to hold off because who knows what will happen. It's so fun to look though.

I might be tempted to buy some stuff if I find that I absolutely love it and know I'd definitely get use out of it (maternity or baby) with the Gap discount I mentioned in the Lounge. it's a possibility

you're crazy and were totally reading my mind. I was talking elsewhere today about shopping for Sienna for next summer (no not exactly the same thing as what you did but shut it) Great deals so why not right? I wish I knew what we'd be having next (boy/girl) so I could grab great deals as I see them... too bad life doesn't work that way huh?

lots of cute maternity and baby stuff on sale at gap and old navy but then again that's really the only place I've been doing any real shopping so who knows what else is out there... I haven't bought anything yet though but key word is yet... I just have to convince myself it's not a waste.

My brother had a little girl last year and we went to visit when she was about 4 weeks old. I got a look at her closet to get an idea of what she still needed since I waited to buy her a gift.

O_o

I ended up buying her a cute outfit...for when she was 2.

if only there was a way to know if you were definitely going to have a girl or boy next, even if you aren't currently pregnant, it would make shopping for future children SO much easier. I am not a fan of most gender neutral attire. Some are cute, but quite frankly - most of that stuff only works for so long and definitely not everyday.

The funny thing about gender neutral stuff is it is always too girly for a boy and too boyish for a girl. It isn't really "gender neutral." It just "lacks gender."

Even when they try to make a line that has boy colors, girl colors and neutral colors.... the girl stuff still isn't styled cute enough for a boy and the boy stuff isn't styled rugged (lol) enough. I duno - I guess that's what bugs me. And rugged was the only word I could come up with, but I'm sure as with the colors, you get my point.

it's also tough to shop for future children because you don't know what season they'll be born. So unless you live in a place where you can wear just about anything anytime of the year - it's hard. Onesies are always good, but why buy those early

I was trying to buy stuff for the future as she got bigger...apparently I didn't buy far enough along! we bought some really cute things for christmas at a 12 mo size...*cry* she fits in it now!! So that ends my buying anything in the future. Except for bedding...I can't wait to decorate a bedroom for her!
