Default best age gap - 05-29-08, 11:31 PM

what do you think is the best age gap between siblings?

I have three sisters- a 2 year age gap(Christina), a 10 year age gap(Petra), and an 11 year age gap(Anitra)...obviously the oldest two werent around me much growing up, in their eyes i was just an obnoxious little sister...my sister Christina who is 2 years my elder was like my best friend growing up...since we were so close in age we had alot of the same friends. We did everything together, and rarely fought i couldnt imagine my childhood without her! Once i was 10 i started getting alot closer to Petra and we've been pretty close ever since, its was a different kind of relationship i could come to her with things i couldnt bring to my parents ect. and now we're still as close as can be. (Anitra lived and lives in a different town and we still rarely speak)

soo obviously i dont want to have a 10 year gap between my kids- but what do you personally think is a good age gap between your kid (future kids) I would say no earlier than 2 years but no more than 4

so I had already posted a response buuut someone lost it in the upgrade...

my brother and I are around 5 years apart - growing up it was hard at times because we didn't have a whole lot in common and didn't really hang out. once we were older (even once I was in high school and he was in college) it was easier and we would hang out more and talk about things. we communicate regularly now, but obviously cant hang out since he's on the other side of the country at the moment. I think when he has kids we'll have more in common (obviously) and that will only make things better. If we were closer in age it might be more difficult honestly because he might still be in his single days and having fun - far less in common if that were the case but it wouldn't be a big deal.

I think 2-3 years is a good range. Less is okay too. If by some chance we conceive this summer that would make them 1yr 9 or 10 months apart - close enough to 2 really. When they're younger closer is sometimes better because they can play and do things together. I duno ... honestly I think age gaps and such could be an issue but it also might not be... it really depends on the kids and the relationships they were brought up to have.

totally agree about him being closer in age- yeah although my sister is two years older than me, we're totally different now...as in she's in her partying days- many years away from kids ect...so we obviously dont hang out that much anymore and in some ways arent as close as we use to be growing up...but thats a given i have my life she has hers and im sure once she settles downs we will be as close as can be! technically we are 1 year 11 months apart although i think she has plans to move maybe we will follow her ...i really want to give Serenity a little sister (fingers crossed for pink) The other thing is my sister Petra (who is 30) has kids but theyre 9 and 10 so anytime i ask her for advice she doesnt remember

I voted 3 years but I would have liked to vote 2 to 3 years. Either one is ok. I think once it gets past 3 years then the chance of them going to school together (which I feel is what makes them close and hang out together) is lost.

^^ I dontknow any siblings that hung out in school (except the two pairs of twins my class had). and EVERYBODY out here had a ton of brothers and sisters xD LOL

I voted three years becuase my mom and her brother were three years apart and while they were pretty mean to one another growing up, they were also very very good friends and looked out for one another. Also, my best friend growing up had a 3 year gap between herself and her only sibling, and they got along much better then me and my brother who are 13 months apart.

Im hoping my kids are 3 years apart. If all goes according to plan they will be 3 years and 4 months =p That will put my oldest 2 grades ahead of the youngest because if oldest doesn't end up being homeschooled, she will be starting kindergarden when she is 6 instead of 5 due to her birthday.

look at me jabber on and on xD

Savannah will be 3 1/2 before we have another one. I think for our family its a perfect age gap! We will see how that goes before we decide on the age gap between the next 2.

I don't think there is a perfect age gap in general - just whatever is right for each family. We can try to plan things however we want them to be, but it doesn't mean they'll end up that way.

^^ I agree.

And the funny thing is, you really won't ever know unless you have a kid 1 year apart, 2 years apart, 3 years apart, 4 years apart, 5 years apart, and so on and so fourth... whose up for being our guinea pig and finding out the truth behind the age gap for us? =D Not it =p
