Default Introducing juice - at what age? - 03-10-10, 04:02 PM

I was just reading on askdrsears about juice and it suggests that 6 months is okay but to try to delay till 9 months if possible.

I dont remember what I did with Sienna but then and now are two different ballgames entirely. When did you introduce juice, how much, how regularly?

Yeah stuff suggests 6 months but i dont plan on introducing it anytime soon with Camden. It's just unnecessary sugar, that he gets from fruits anyway. I have gave him a little prune apple here and there when get gets backed up but he mostly spits it out. Just planning on doing water and whole milk when we wean.

so far he's only had breastmilk?

I really wish I could remember what I did with Sienna. I know she had sippy cups sometime between 6 and 9 months and at first I'm sure it was just milk I put in there.

Yep he's only had breastmilk and sippies with water (besides a few sips of juice when he gets backed up). Havent put any milk in a cup for him yet. Here's a good article Baby Juice, Giving Your Baby Baby Juice and Juicing for your baby, is juice good for your baby? I guess it's all personal choice but IMO there's nothing in juice that a baby cant get from eating fruits and it's way healther to get the stuff that way.

It was at least 6 mos. (but quite possibly longer) with Jackson- and even now, I don't give him a lot of juice- mostly milk and water. Austin still has only had breastmilk and I imagine it'll stay that way for a while for sure... Oh, and even the juice that Jackson gets, I cut it WAY down with water... he has had "straight" juice before, but I just try and limit it- plus, it lasts longer...so, yeah...it's more like flavored water

meaning thats not really the reason (her teeth- wish i woulda waited for her), like i said in my first post just unnecessary sugar that they can get from real fruit.

depending on the juice - no added sugar so the sugar content isn't different than what you'd get in straight fruit but it all depends greatly on the specific bottle of juice. I think it's good for kids to learn to like water anyway. A seriously ice cold glass of water is soooo good.

sienna doesnt drink nearly as much as she did 6 months ago. each day is different though. these days a glass of milk in the morning with breakfast, then maybe 3 cups of juice/water mix - it's usually 70 water / 30 juice mix sometimes a bit more in the opposite direction just depends.

Sienna will eat if she's hungry, she doesnt' snack a whole ton. If she doesnt finish her lunch, she doesnt get food till dinner. She seriously threw out practically all of her lunch the other day. Told her, too bad... no food till dinner. She's gotta learn.
