BOOOOO to difficult stuff....

So, other than cookie icing... I know there's the icing that's real hard like for gingerbread and such, but what's another option besides cake icing that may not dry???

you can make your own and put it in a pastry bag or ziplock bag - itd certainly be easier to squeeze and you could control the thickness of it so it might squeeze easier.

yeah, but what kind do you make??? I make cake icing, and I've made the harder stuff for gingerbread... maybe I'll hafta do a search for "cookie icing" another day

Although, I didn't mind the betty crocker stuff...it worked ok for me- just seems kinda like a waste if you don't use the whole tube...

royal icing - you can color it, flavor it, make it thinner or thicker as you please.

well you can use cake frosting and just do a very thin layer - it will get a crispy layer on top if you put the cookies in the fridge for a day or two but the cookies may crisp up more as well.

I was looking at a bunch of cakes yesterday and all the fondant stuff
I figure, maybe I can do the cakes and the basic stuff and put Lance to work making fancier fondant stuff since he's really artistic and such

I'm gonna experiment with it at some point, but I'm still trying to learn and improve with icing...so....yeah, and I can only make so many cakes it's not like we need em around here...

I can't frost a cake super smooth and have issues with that first 'crumb' layer. i'll have to do some reading and research before my trials begin

Freezing the cake first helps a lot with the crumbs... it's not 100% every time, but it does help a TON...

yeah I noticed on a cake show I watch that they always chill a cake completely and then do a crumb coat and i think they might even chill that before really frosting it and again before the fondant but I could be wrong
